May 2016 Instagram Round-Up

I thought it would be really fun to do a big post at the end of every month showing the different hairstyles that I shared on Instagram throughout the month, so here it is.
This is a simple fishtail braid. This is one of my most worn hairstyles recently because it is so easy and cute. Here is a link to this hair tutorial: Fishtail Braid for Short Hair

I love this wavy look and it's so great for any length of hair! Here is a link to this tutorial: Beachy Waves for Short Hair

I've been wearing my bangs with a big ol' poof since Junior High School. I guess some things will never change!
I love this double braid so much! I will be doing a hair tutorial for this soon, so be on the look-out!

This waterfall braid is super quick and easy and I love that is helps keep my bangs out of my eyes! Here is a link to this tutorial: Waterfall Braid Tutorial

This is another one of my favorite casual hairstyles that I have found myself wearing over again! I will also be making a tutorial for this fun bun!

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a simple straight blown out look!

I love adding a tight braid the shorter side of my hair because I think it adds a bit of an edgy look.

This last one is a 360 look at my grow-out progress. I am 8 months in and pretty happy with my hair's progress!

This is one of my very favorite styles. It's so easy to do and looks effortless! This will look beautiful on anyone and even if your hair is a little shorter than mine or longer, it will be gorgeous.

Growing Out a Pixie Undercut

After having a pixie cut for three years, I finally decided that it was time to grow it out. I had enjoyed having my pixie cut very much, but I just needed a change. Having such short hair, my only option for something new was to go through the dreadful growing process to get longer locks. I got a haircut in September of 2015 and I decided to cut my hair into a shorter pixie than I had been wearing. I just wanted one last taste of the pixie life. I ended up not loving this style on myself and so I was even more sure of my decision to grow my hair. Here is a shot of what my short crop looked like.
You can see how short my hair was on the left side. I had an undercut that went all the way around my head and then the top was longer. I began letting my hair grow. I have grown a pixie before, so I was well aware of all of the awkward stages that would be in my future. Because I had the undercut, I didn't need to get it trimmed. Normally getting frequent trims throughout growing is essential to avoid the 'mullet' style, but because my hair was pretty much buzzed it took a long time for it to get very long. I was able to let it grow for 7 months before getting a proper trim. As I got closer to deciding to go to my stylist for a proper shape-up, I just had my husband trim the 'mullet' on my neck with his beard trimmer. It worked great and saved me a $35 haircut.

When I finally decided to get a haircut, I had no idea how my hairstylist was going to make my hair look any better. The top had gotten very long and the undercut was growing too, but it was still so much shorter than the top layers! Somehow, my hairstylist is magical and gave me a beautiful style that no longer feels as though I am growing out my pixie. We decided to put an undercut at the bottom of my neck because my hair is extra thick there for some reason. This hairstyle is great for growing a pixie undercut, but I would actually wear this hairstyle even if I wasn't growing my hair!
I hope you enjoyed my little 'growing a pixie' story and I will be posting more updates as they happen!
